Favorite Nasi Lemak at Caili Cooked Food

To find nasi lemak for breakfast has always been very convenient, but to find really good nasi lemak is another thing.

A good friend of mine who lives in Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 brought me to this corner stall at Kebun Bahru market one morning and I was hooked.

For those outside Singapore, nasi lemak refers to a combination of coconut rice accompanied with chicken wings, fried egg and fried anchovies and peanuts.

And the glue to piece everything together is the spicy sambal chilli sauce that comes with every plate of nasi lemak. Sometimes, as in the case of Caili, they come with more than just these, but other sides like veggies and other meats like luncheon meat and so forth.

Nasi Lemak
I had my plate with the standard rice, deep fried chicken wing, fried egg and long beans. I particularly like the rice here as the coconut milk used was just right, lemak enough to get the fragrance of the coconut totally absorbed in the grains and yet not overly mushy.

The chicken wing had a nice batter and flavor to it, and was not too oily, and the meat within still tender and moist. The egg simply fried and the sambal chilli had a strong aroma of garlic and spices which really combined well with the rice.

This stall had a long queue in the morning and I was reliably informed this was the case every day. Indeed, the price was slightly higher than what I expected for standard nasi lemak, but they did have a very good selection and variety, so you pay for what you get.

In summary, for a great plate of nasi lemak, this is certainly above the usual fare and nasi lemak lovers should give it a go.
